FCJA Library

The provision of a well-stocked, maintained and carefully planned school library, which caters for the learning needs of the children and teaching staff, is an essential feature of our school’s curriculum.

At Field Court we recognise the importance of guiding the children to develop a love of reading so that they choose to read a range of texts for pleasure.  Alongside this, the pupils should develop library skills to enable them to access information successfully and to increase their knowledge and understanding of the full range of non-fiction and fiction texts.

Aims

  • To inspire and enrich pupils’ reading experiences and develop pupils’ skills as independent learners.
  • To provide resources to meet the educational and recreational needs of the children and staff.
  • To present resources, processed and labelled, in an engaging environment, that is user friendly for all pupils.
  • To have up-to-date, attractive and suitable resources.
  • To enable children to learn and practise skills related to the efficient use of a library.
  • To support the teaching and learning process and extend the school’s curriculum.
  • To guide children to quality, challenging texts.
  • To be a part of the school community where children can contribute, as librarians.

Organisation

  • Displays introduce the chidlren to new authors and are changed termly.
  • Our 'Bookflix' board is updated half termly by the reading Ambassadors. It informs the children of new releases, ambassador book recommendations and 'trending' books.
  • Pupil ambassadors support the running of the library by ensuring all book shelves are tidy and to support children when they are looking for a book.
  • Allocated bi-weekly slots are available for each class.
  • The library is open daily, at lunchtimes, using a rota for year groups.
  • Each child can borrow two books at any one time (fiction and non-fiction).
  • All pupils and staff are issued with an individual bar code which is stuck in their link books. This is scanned by a member of staff or pupil librarian for the issue and return of books.
  • Every child is responsible for returning books to their correct place on the shelves.
  • There is a ‘Gold’ bookshelf which is only available to Years 5 and 6 due to content.
