DT at FCJA
The Intent
Our FCJA Design and Technology curriculum helps pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.
Implementation
We have based our Design and Technology curriculum on the KS2 National Curriculum. It is a practical subject that has three units: construction, cooking and textiles. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
They present their work creatively in books and have the opportunity to develop their designs. Pupils acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
We have links with organisations such as STEM Works who run workshops in the school. This is not just to provide exciting enrichment opportunities, but it will also start them thinking about a possible future career in STEM. We want our children to contribute to the creativity, culture, wealth and wellbeing of the nation.
We also celebrate Design Technology through extra-curricular opportunities such as after school clubs and exciting termly home challenges where families and the wider school community can get involved in the fun.
